Nella speranza di mostrarvi domani un outfit, il che significherà che Sissi è guarita, oggi vi parlo di un argomento che mi sta molto a cuore: il bilinguismo nei bambini.
With the hope that tomorrow I’ll show you an outfit, which will mean that Sissi has healed, today we talk about a topic that is close to my heart: bilingualism in children.
Stiamo crescendo Sissi bilingue e devo dire che (finora) sta funzionando. La nostra scelta è dettata dal fatto che io sono italiana e mio marito colombiano, quindi è stato naturale pensare che la nostra bimba dovesse apprendere, capire e parlare correttamente entrambe le lingue (italiano e spagnolo). Tra l’altro le lingue sono sempre state una mia passione e qualcosa che ritengo importante nella vita di un individuo perchè credo fermamente che parlare più lingue aiuti a conoscere il mondo, a leggere libri (chi ama la lettura sa che leggere un libro in lingua madre è tutta un’altra cosa, perchè spesso nella traduzione si perdono molte sfumature), renda più semplice viaggiare e conoscere persone, insomma che aiuti ad essere davvero “cittadini del mondo”.
We are growing Sissi as bilingual baby and I have to say that (so far) it is working. Our choice is dictated by the fact that I am Italian and my husband Colombian, so it was natural to think that our child has to learn, understand and speak correctly both languages (Italian and Spanish). Idioms have always been a passion of mine and something that I think is important in the life of a person, because I firmly believe that speaking more than one language helps to know the world, to read books (those who love reading know that reading a book in its mother language is better, because often many nuances are lost in translation), makes it easier to travel and meet people, in short, that really help you to be “citizen of the world.”
Fin da prima che Sissi nascesse mi sono un po’ documentata su vari siti, primo di tutti quello di Bilingue per Gioco (che illustra benissimo cosa è il bilinguismo e tutte le tecniche ed i dubbi), ma anche Bilinguismo Conta e alcuni articoli su Pianeta Mamma, su Repubblica e su NostroFiglio (l’articolo è della Tata Adriana). Non vi annoierò quindi con mille teorie e consigli sul come fare, ma vi riassumerò come ha funzionato (finora) per noi.
Since before Sissi was born I searched on various sites, first of all on Bilingue per Gioco (which illustrates very well what is bilingualism and all the techniques and doubts), but also on Bilinguismo Conta and on some articles on Pianeta Mamma, on Repubblica and on NostroFiglio (the article is by Tata Adriana). I will not bother you with a thousand theories and tips on how to do it, but I will summarize how it worked (so far) for us.
1. Mio marito parla spagnolo ed io italiano. Davanti a lei tra di noi parliamo italiano, a volte spagnolo. Fin dal primo giorno in cui Sissi è nata.
From the very first day when Sissi was born my husband speaks Spanish and I speak Italian. In front of her between us we speak Italian, Spanish sometimes.
2. Sissi ha cominciato a dire le prime parole, in italiano, a 10 mesi, seguendo tutte le tappe comuni: dalla lallazione fino alle parole complete.
Sissi began to say her first words, in Italian, at 10 months, following all the common stages: from babbling to complete words.
3. A circa 18-20 mesi ha cominciato a dire qualche parola in spagnolo.
At about 18-20 months she began to say a few words in Spanish.
4. A 22-23 mesi diceva frasi intere in italiano (più o meno comprensibili) e varie parole in spagnolo.
At 22-23 months, she was saying whole sentences in Italian (more or less understandable) and several words in Spanish.
5. Ora ha quasi 25 mesi e fa frasi sempre più complesse (e comprensibili) in italiano, nessuna frase ma molte più parole in spagnolo.
Now she’s almost 25 months and says ever more complex sentences (and understandable) in Italian, no sentence but more words in Spanish.
6. Da un po’ di tempo fa il “dizionario”: ad esempio prende un colore blu e dice “Mamma blu, papà azul”, che sia presente o meno il papà.
For some time she does the “dictionary”: for example takes a blue color and says “Mom blue, Dad azul”, even if her dad is not present.
7. Quando viaggiamo all’estero ripete i suoni nella lingua (in genere inglese) che, secondo me, percepisce differente.
When we travel abroad she repeats the sounds in the language (usually English), becuase in my opinion she hears a different language.
8. Abbiamo dei giochi sull’Ipad in inglese ed ha imparato alcune parole…
We have some Ipad’s games in English and she has learned a few words …
9. Sissi vede poca TV, cerchiamo di farle vedere Peppa Pig anche in spagnolo.
Sissi watches a little TV, but we’re trying to make her see Peppa Pig also in Spanish.
Questa è la situazione attuale. Abbiamo tantissimi libri per bimbi a casa, in italiano, in spagnolo, in inglese, addirittura in olandese… per ora però li leggo io inventando le storie, un giorno credo che serviranno, ma dobbiamo aspettare ancora un pochino! 😉
This is the current situation. We have many books for children at home, in Italian, Spanish, English, Dutch … for now I read them inventing stories, one day I think they will be useful, but we have to wait a little bit! 😉
Qui nella nostra città di provincia ci sono scuole con corsi di inglese anche per bimbi di età inferiore a 3 anni, siamo iscritte da settembre, ma non sono mai partiti perchè Sissi è l’unica alunna… peccato! Le scuole sono “Helen Doron” e “English is Fun”: entrambe mi sembra che abbiano dei metodi interessanti, ma credo che dovremo aspettare il prossimo anno per entrare nel gruppo 3-5 anni…
Here in our little city there are schools with courses in English for children under the age of 3 years, we recorded from September, but they have never started because Sissi is the only student… shame! The schools are Helen Doron and English is Fun: I think that both methods are interesting, but I think we’ll have to wait until next year to join the group 3-5 years …

condivido al 100% il mio bimbo di 22 mesi parla (o meglio dice parole) in italiano, la lingua che parliamo a casa, francese, visto che fino a qualche mese fa andava all’asilo francese, inglese e persino cinese che sta imparando ora qui a singapore. è verissimo sa quale lingua usare con ciascuna persona, se gli parlo in francese ad esempio mi guarda strano 😉 chissà che confusione deve avere in testa 🙂
anche io pensavo che facesse confusione però più cresce più mi rendo conto che sa benissimo quale lingua con quale persona/contesto… ancora non parla “itagnolo”!
