EARTH DAY: OUR THOUGHTS

Oggi è stato l’Earth Day, la giornata della nostra amata, bistrattata, Terra. 

A Roma, presso il MAXXI – Museo per le arti contemporanee del XXI secolo –, si è inaugurata oggi la mostra fotografica “Cambiamo Clima”, organizzata da Earth Day Italia e Shoot4Change, in  partnership con Banca Mondiale. La mostra fotografica sarà poi donata da Earth Day Italia alla città di Roma e in modo particolare alle sue periferie. Dopo l’esposizione al MAXXI (dal 22 al 29 aprile), le fotografie verranno spostate sul Gianicolo, in Piazza Garibaldi, dall’1 all’11 maggio, per poi essere trasferita in mostra permanente presso il Centro Elsa Morante, centro culturale di eccellenza della Periferia Romana.

Disney Channel ha celebrato questa giornata con una programmazione con una selezione di puntate dedicate alla Terra, all’ecologia, al riciclaggio di rifiuti.

Today is Earth Day, the day of our beloved, despised, Earth.

In Rome at the MAXXI – Museum for Contemporary Arts of the XXI century – was inaugurated the photo exhibition “Let’s change Climate”, organized by Earth Day Italy and Shoot4Change , in partnership with the World Bank. The photo exhibition will then be donated from Earth Day Italy to the city of Rome and in particular to its suburbs. After exposure to the MAXXI (from 22nd to 29th April), the photographs will be moved on the Janiculum, in Piazza Garibaldi, from 1st to 11th May, before being transferred on permanent display at the Centre Elsa Morante, the cultural center of excellence in the Outskirts of Rome.

Disney Channel has celebrated this day with a program with a selection of episodes dedicated to the Earth, ecology, recycling of waste.

IT.

Noi, ancora un po’ ammalate, abbiamo piantato delle piante aromatiche. Perchè, bando alla retorica ed alla strumentalizzazione, oggi si parla anche un po’ del mio lavoro: di ingegneria ambientale, di sostenibilità, di energie alternative, di ecologia. Quando studiavo all’Università spesso ho sentito ripetere che bisognava lasciare questa Terra ai nostri figli, se non meglio, almeno uguale a come l’abbiamo trovata noi, che il rispetto per la Terra riguarda prima di tutto il futuro dei nostri figli, che le buone pratiche ecologiche e di sostenibilità non servono se non si fa educazione ambientale e che questa deve cominciare fin da bambini. Allora non ci pensavo molto a questi concetti generazionali, avevo 23 anni e non pensavo minimamente ad essere mamma!

Oggi, invece, guardo Sissi e vorrei che potesse respirare un’aria salubre, bere un’acqua esente da contaminazione, farsi il bagno in un mare pulito e cristallino, conoscere tante piante e tanti animali… ed allora tutto acquista un senso molto più profondo, anche proteggere questa bistrattata Terra, continuare a credere nel mio lavoro e fare qualche sacrificio per avere dei comportamenti il più sostenibili possibile.

We still feel a little sick, but we planted herbs. Because, apart from the rhetoric and manipulation, today we talk a bit also of my work: environmental engineering, sustainability, alternative energy, ecology. When I was studying at the University I have often heard that you had to leave this Earth if not better at least the same as we found it for our children, that respect for the Earth is primarily about the future of our children, that the good ecological practices and sustainability are useless if you don’t do environmental education and that this should begin from childhood. Then I did not think much of these generational concepts, I was 23 and I did not think in any way to be a mother!

Today, however, I look at Sissi and I wish she could breathe fresh air, drink water free from contamination, bathing in the crystal clear sea, knowing so many plants and many animals… and then everything makes a very deeper sense, even protect this mistreated Earth, continue to believe in my work and make some sacrifices to get our behavior as sustainable as possible.
