100 Years of Bauhaus: home decor ideas

In 1919 an art school was formed in Germany: this school would have a profound influence on art and interior design in the following century. That school was called Bauhaus (name derived from the union of German words Bau construction and Haus home).

Bauhaus was a school of crafts, design, art and architecture born from the union of the School of Fine Arts with the School of Arts and crafts by the architect Walter Gropius in Weimar (Germany) and officially known as the Staatliches Bauhaus. For the first time, industrial and graphic design were considered real professions with normative and academic bases. One of the principles established since its foundation was “the form follows the function”, whereby in architecture the different spaces begin to be designed with geometric shapes according to the function for which they were conceived.

Inspired by the movement of modernism, the distinctive appearance of Bauhaus consisted of circular shapes, angular frames and abstract blocks of primary colours. This style has continued to be popular over the years, and today more than ever witnessed a revival precisely thanks to the hundredth anniversary of Bauhaus, which the world of interior design will celebrate throughout 2019.
