Live one step at a time, fill your eyes and heart with beauty, breathe the thin and pure air of the high altitude, in a continuous alternation of panoramas, atmospheres, colors and scents. In Val di Sole you can choose different itineraries immersed in the mountains of the Ortles-Cevedale group, the Adamello-Presanella and the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Val di Sole huts
From afar they appear like tiny dots surrounded by the immensity of a boundless landscape. Finally, after a few hours of walking, here they appear: wood, stone, bricks, reserve a warm welcome to visitors, also with the pleasure of tasty local recipes, offering the possibility to stay overnight and discover the beauty of the sunrise in the mountains .
Many of these mountain huts are linked by multiple-stage itineraries.
The Mantova Al Vioz Hut is the highest in the central-eastern Alps, with its 3,545 m, and is a valuable foothold for the “tour of the 13 peaks” of the Ortles-Cevedale group. Don’t miss the visit at the Museum of Punta Linke.
At the respectable altitude of 2,608 meters, on a splendid rocky balcony, there is the Larcher al Cevedale Hut, to be reached along an interesting route with many faunal sightings: chamois, marmots, partridges, roe deer, stags and eagles.
In the Stelvio National Park, at an altitude of 2,436, we find the “Cascate” Hut, close to the marvellous saent waterfalls and other itineraries such as the Sentiero dei Larici Monumentali (monumental Larch Trail), the path of the Sternai lakes, as well as the Careser glacier, on Cima Rossa and Cima Sternai.
In Val di Rabbi, a few steps from the last valley, in South Tyrol, Lago Corvo Hut (2,425 m) is 10 minutes from a gorgeous series of conches that house alpine Lakes, among which Il Corvo, house of the rare Alpine char.
In the presence of the Presanella, imposing stone colossus, we find Denza Hut (2,298 m), next to an alpine lake with crystal clear waters. To visit the nearby Fort Pozzi Alti, built at the time of the Great War.
In the enchanting scenery of the Presena Glacier, we find Capanna Presena Hut (2,753 m), equipped with a relaxing spa, starting point for excursions to the glaciers of the mountain and the legendary via Ferrata Flower Trail (Sentiero dei Fiori).
Orso Bruno Hut (2,200 m) overlooks the Adamello-Brenta Dolomites, a few metres from the top of Mount Vigo, and can also be reached by cableway. From here you will find many excursions to nearby mountain lakes.
Peller Hut, finally, is the northernmost of the Brenta Dolomites huts and is situated on a pleasant and sunny plateau near the homonymous mountain, above the Durigal lakes.
More than 100 km of paths to do in several stages, a true paradise for lovers of trekking in altitude, connect the most important summer pastures (in italian malghe) of Val di Sole, where still today they live following the rhythm of the seasons, of the hays and of the production of cheese, like the typical Casolét. The malghe are the concrete and fascinating symbol of a real cultural landscape, an example of coexistence between man and nature.
The way of the mountain pastures is indicated by signs and the maps, or – technological option – downloading an APP that provides information on the itineraries following the hiker step by step.
Through uncontaminated sceneries of rare beauty, meet the malga-man, you can stay in farmhouses made with local trees – larch, spruce, pine – and you can taste menus of the local tradition. Starting points for access to the circuit, various locations in the Val di Rabbi, Val di Peio or in general Val di Sole, can be reached by car or by an efficient public transport system, by train or bus. Il sentiero dei fiori
Pure emotion and adrenaline. The path of the flowers (in italian Sentiero dei Fiori) is a panoramic path of high altitude and of cultural and historical interest, only for experienced hikers: this ancient way of entrenchment of the Italian soldiers during the Great War develops along the old ditches with equipped traits, steel cables and suspension bridges, and four passages in the crest. It is a fascinating challenge to face, therefore, equipped with helmet, harness and suitable clothing, possibly accompanied by a mountain guide of Val di Sole.
With the Cableway Paradiso, at Passo Tonale, you reach Passo Paradiso (2,585 m), the starting point. When you reach Lake Monticello, take the path SAT 44, and go up to Passo del Castellaccio, where the ferrata begins. As an alternative to the two metal bridges (75 and 55 meters), you can follow a tunnel dug into the rock. The highest point is Corno di Lagoscuro (3,160 m): from here you go down to Passo Lagoscuro, where the ferrata ends. Admire the remains of a military village of the Great War, continue up to Passo Presa, where you take the cableway to return. In four and a half hours a great adventure!
