Zadig et Voltaire: why this name?

Zadig & Voltaire is one of the most daring and rock-inspired brands in the fashion world. Founded in 1997 by Thierry Gillier, it takes its name from Voltaire’s novel “Zadig, ou la Destinée” (Zadig, or The Book of Destiny) (1747), whose protagonist inspired the designer.

More than a brand, Zadig & Voltaire is a concept: Thierry Gillier takes inspiration from the Parisian music scene and creates an unusual, but accessible and contemporary luxe rock. The Zadig & Voltaire look has become so iconic, relying on just 4 must-haves: a pair of Zadig & Voltaire jeans, a cashmere sweater, boots and a leather jacket from the brand. A rebellious and intellectual style, an international look, which makes cashmere sweaters famous with slogans embellished with rhinestones such as Elvis, Mick or the iconic skull pattern. In 2006 the Zadig &Voltaire empire welcomed a new line: children’s clothing. If you want to create your own mini me, it is possible by dressing your children from 6 to 14 years old with Zadig &Voltaire! Zadig &Voltaire cashmere sweaters for children, as well as jeans, dresses, jackets and tops are designed and produced in exactly the same way as adult pieces, offering little rebels the same iconic Parisian look.
