Pitti Bimbo 2020, Playtime Paris and children’s fashion fairs: new dates and new opportunities

We do not know exactly what impact Covid-19 will have on the fashion industry: there are many hypotheses, few certainties. It is clear, however, that the fashion industry will change a lot, even in the sector dedicated to children.

Pitti Bimbo 2020, Playtime Paris and children’s fashion fairs: new dates and new opportunities

The great events dedicated to childrenswear are the first to suffer big changes: June and July would be, as every year, the months dedicated to the stage of Pitti Bimbo, Playtime Paris, FIMI Madrid, CIFF Youth.

The organizations that run the children’s fashion fairs reacted differently: some of them planned date shifts, other big changes, all trying to support children’s fashion in the best way, in order to make the brands, especially the smallest ones, survive.

After a difficult spring/summer 2020 season, there is a doubtful autumn/winter 2020/21 and a spring/summer 2021… well, it’s unknown.

For those who are not in the sector: during the fairs, such as Pitti Bimbo 2020, Playtime Paris, FIMI Madrid, CIFF Youth, the collections of the following seasons are presented. That is to say: in June 2020 Spring/Summer 2021 collections are presented, the ones you want to buy right away and for which we are always responding on social and comments that are just preview, that you have to wait.

Taking part to a trade show for a brand means having already supported not only the whole creative part of designing the models, the choice of materials, but also the prototyping (at the fair they have to bring a complete sampling) and the marketing part aimed at buyers (shooting, lookbooks, catalogs, etc.). Because of the COVID-19, many brands have not been able – or far behind – with all this production dynamics…

Pitti Bimbo 2020 has moved the date of Pitti Bimbo 91 to September: from 9 to 10 September 2020, concentrated in two days instead of the classic three days, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Some days ago Pitti Immagine declared that they will have only the online tradeshow, Pitti Connect.

Playtime Paris, while understanding how important human touch is, decides instead to skip the edition thanks to an innovative digital platform.

Playtime B2B Marketplace will be in the coming summer months much more than just a B2B platform: it will become a digital fair, a virtual place full of events that will highlight new and established brands, with insights and focus on topics of interest for anyone who belongs to the world of children’s fashion.

FIMI Madrid will celebrate its 91st edition from 10 to 12 July in Feria Valencia. Initially scheduled from 19 to 21 June, it will be moved a month later, preserving the visibility of the best fashion brands for children and infants, footwear and accessories, lifestyle.

CIFF YOUTH, which had originally planned to move dates to June and downtown locations, returns to the usual August dates and location at the Bella Center. From 5 to 7 August, CIFF YOUTH will present hundreds of carefully selected children’s fashion brands, alongside lifestyle and sportswear brands from around the world.
