Sightseeing Cruise on Seine: Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches

We have been in Paris so many times and we had never been able to arrange a sightseeing cruise on the river Seine!
Why? Once the river was in full, more than once it was too cold, another time we arrived late at the reservation box office…
We made it this time! A Sightseeing Cruise on Seine is certainly a comfortable, relaxing, suitable for adults and kids, even more than recommended for children who will certainly be fascinated by the navigation on the river. An unforgettable experience.

Sightseeing Cruise on Seine: some tips

My first advice is: book online. In this way you will not find nasty surprises on your arrival: such as  sold out… It happened to us once!
The second tip is: be punctual!
Third tip: fix a budget! A sightseeing cruise on Seine is not necessarily expensive: you can choose according to your budget if you decide whether to do only the cruise or have also lunch or dinner, or just have an aperitif.
In any way, it will be a unique experience!
Don’t forget your camera, batteries and memory cards! The view of Paris through the river that crosses it and has marked its history is really unique. By changing the perspective you can admire architectural details that you would not see otherwise, without considering the multilingual explanation that you can listen to throughout the cruise. Selfie is a must!

Choose the timetable: in summer months it is nice to stay outdoors, but this means a sunny route. Remember caps, sunscreen and water, especially for children.

Sightseeing Cruise on Seine: Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches

Among the various companies, we have chosen Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches which starts from the Pont de l’Alma. It is a convenient location, close to main tourist attractions: the tour begins and ends here.

Some curiosities: the fly-boat (translation for bateau-mouche, in the plural bateaux-mouches) was born in Lyon in the nineteenth century for the transport of goods, and possibly passengers, through rivers and canals. The tourist purpose, just like the present one, was born in Paris during the Universal Exposition of 1867. Today the Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches® has a modern fleet with 15 boats that annually host almost 2.5 million people.

Starting from the Pont de l’Alma on Right bank, the boat tour on the river Seine covers several places crossing both the Rive Gauche and the Rive Droite and showing to the tourist all the main monuments of Paris: Tour Eiffel, Hotel des Invalides, Sainte-Chapelle, Notre-Dame, Musée d’Orsay, Louvre, Concierge, Petit and Grand Palais, Hotel de Ville…

The duration of the boat tour on the Seine with Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches® is about 1 hour and 10 minutes and the departures in high season (from April to September) take place every 30 minutes from 10.00 to 22.30. You can choose a romantic sunset or evening light tour, or you can look for the perfect golden hour light or fresh morning air: you have the choice! You can book comfortably online and then just go to the box office before departure with the reservation number to have quick access to the boat.

The cost of the soghtseeing cruise on Seine with Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches® is €14 for adults, €6 for children under 12 years of age and free for children under 4 years of age.

Do you want something really SUPER ROMANTIC? You can also opt for a dinner on the Admiral of the Fleet, Jean-Sébastien Mouche: a dinner with a refined menu with a sweet background of music, while Paris, illuminated by the lights of the evening, reveals before your eyes. The boarding of the dinner cruise with Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches starts from Pont de l’Alma at 20.30 and returns to the pier at 22.45 and costs €130.00 per person (children reduced to €37.00)
