Soft Gallery AW18: The Optimist

The AW18 collection of Soft Gallery is titled The Optimist: one of the collections that most impressed me in Copenhagen during Ciff Kids, last August. It is a tribute to the optimist, the dreamer, open minded and curious. A vision that follows the way kids live their lifes, always optimistic, isn’t it?

Inspired by thousands of snapshots taken in Japan, for autumn winter 2018/19 season Soft Gallery invites us to make a trip in Japan and never underestimate the strength of optimism. As always, Soft Gallery makes art meeting with kidswear, and viceversa. And from this meeting, adding for autumn/winter 2018/19 season an important place like Japan, is born a really beautiful collection, in my opinion one of the best the brand ever created.

Barbara Hvidt and Tine Holt Møller, the two founders of the Danish brand, drew inspiration for the Optimist collection from their trip to Tokyo in spring 2017. During the first visit to Japan, they lost in this extraordinary place, so different from our Western vision of life.

The exquisite and distinctive traditions and contrasts, symbols and motifs are an important part of the Japanese aesthetics and urban landscape of Tokyo, and this is how Soft Gallery AW18 Collection was born. A collection invaded and at times pleasantly overwhelmed by the impressions and the fascination of vibrant Tokyo: from color clashes to cute mascots, from sculptures and chaos to urban silence, from artisan pottery to flashing road signs, from neon lights to symbols of the Japanese tradition… The palette of colors includes black and gold, pink, red, dark blue and electric blue: many pieces easy to match with other garments from Soft Gallery and with many independent brands launching in these weeks their autumn/winter collections.

Immersed in these new sensations, almost lost in time, you will suddenly comprehend the beauty of everything that surrounds us, revealing and stressing the importance of being optimistic and open-minded.
