Travel with Children: two days mother-and-daughter with the charme of Palazzo Montemartini

It tooks (almost) 6 years. Our first trip alone, a  mom-and-daughter trip, something intimate and special that we did to assist at a unique event not far from home: in Rome, together, just the two of us, as if it were a pajama-party a little special best-friends’ weekend.

When it comes to holidays with children many parents are a little scared: for some of them travel means relaxation and means no-children. Some time ago I told you my more than firm conviction on LivingSuavinex.it: why travelling with children is important, why it should be done right from the start, why you should think of journey as an educational and formative moment, just like the school or other activities.

For us travel with children, with Sissi in our case, is a gift: I consider it such a gift and I really felt even more important those two days spent in Rome. We’ve had mutual company, so total and satisfying, we laughed, joked, ate, rested, speak. We will remember this experience forever, without taking anything away from our family trips, equally beautiful and special.

We will always remember the location that made our trip to Rome even more unique: Palazzo Montemartini

Conveniently located just a few steps from Termini station and adjacent to Terme di Diocleziano, close to all the prestigious attractions of the historic center of Rome, Palazzo Montemartini is a charming 5-star hotel that combines history with modernity, which every traveller of our days search constantly.

The story first makes Palazzo Montemartini a prestigious place: it is in fact the only hotel in Rome crossed by the Servian walls, dating back to the 6th century B.C. and built during the reign of the King Servius Tullio. The history, the nineteenth century, envelops the building, recently refurbished in its typical architecture of the late ‘800 which offers classic elements such as marble, stucco, windows and portals.

The modernity of Palazzo Montemartini starts from the furnishings, in wood and gold in the hall, and of the rooms, with a unique design, clean, linear, to continue with the services, such as the Restaurant & Lounge Bar Senses and the exclusive SPA of 600 sqm. The attention of all the staff is impeccable, warm and welcoming, kind, as a 5 star hotel obviously requires, but never cold and impersonal, especially with children, who are always welcome guests.

Palazzo Montemartini offers 82 elegant rooms and suites divided into 13 typologies: Superior, De luxe, Gran De luxe, SPA Junior Suites, Junior suite. 4 suites for a Queen (or princess): 1 Noble Junior suite of 48 sqm, 1 Skylight suite of 110 sqm, 1 noble suite of 60 sqm with frescoed ceiling and private balcony and 1 Penthouse suite of 225 sqm with private terrace of 120 sqm. A tip: if you’re planning a wedding in Rome, think about them!

Our room, with a beautiful view on the Servian walls and Piazza dei Cinquecento, is furnished in a sober and minimalist way. The clean lines of the furnishings contrast in an extremely pleasant way with the dynamic element of the living room consisting of two curved and sliding walls, which give access to the bath & toilette area. This area is the paradise of every woman: large washbasins in carved stone, perfect lighting also with LED and makeup mirror, large bathtub in assembled stone, rainforest shower and separate WC, excellent courtesy line of Lorenzo Villoresi, professional hairdryer. Getting ready to go out or morning regenerating shower at Palazzo Montemartini become experiences to be enjoyed calmly, just as it is right for holiday!

Excellence continues in the bedroom, with great mattresses on large king sized beds dressed with cotton satin sheets and down covers, plus a selection of pillows (and sufferers of cervical know how annoying it is to have to change pillow even with the best of mattress!). Amenities include everything a 5-star hotel must have: Nespresso machine, Tea corner, well-assorted minibar, CD player, DVD and flat-screen satellite TV with international programming, bathrobes and slippers, safe, USB plug to charge electronic devices in comfort, a smart assistant that you can take with you as a smartphone to get tourist information and being online without extra costs. The Wi-Fi network is free and high speed throughout the hotel, while for kids there is a welcome program with colors and themed albums.

The breakfast is a real treat for both the  business and leisure guests: pan cakes or crepes prepared by a chef, coffee and natural juices served at the table, a wide buffet of sweet and savory with excellent products.

The Restaurant & Lounge Bar Senses is much more than a gourmet restaurant: a real privileged meeting place, characterized by a splendid architecture, which again combines the ancient of the columns and the frescoed portals, with the modernity of the central fountain. The corner of the champagne offers a large card of bubbles with Italian brands and you can sit outside in the beautiful garden next to the walls Servian to taste them. The menu, with products of excellent origin, is also available in the version for Vegetarians and children. Room service is available 24 hours a day.

The Women’s day approaches and Senses offers a special evening with live music with piano and voice with a menu that includes welcome aperitif with “mimosa” cocktail, Salted cod fish in black tempura, chicory puntarella and raspberries mayonnaise, Red tagliatelle with peas, shrimps, burrata cheese and candied lemon, Soft swordfish cake, seafood, potatoes and dried tomatoes pesto, mimosa cake.

A story: we use d room service twice, mainly because we wanted to enjoy a bit of relaxation in private and stay together away from the spotlight as much as possible. Sissi eats everything, but as every child has her own preferences, she normally prefers healthy foods, genuine and homemade flavors (she is accustomed to eating mainly organic food, of good quality, not prepackaged or precooked. Prepared mainly by me) and sometimes when eating out it causes some problem… We certainly do not stress, but I must recognize that Sissi eats less. Well, the lasagnetta of Senses, in adult proportion, was literally devoured. And also asked for dinner, again in the room at late hour in the night. She says it was as good as at home. And, believe me, when travelling with children this is really something important!

The proximity of Palazzo Montemartini to Termini Station makes it the perfect destination for business travellers: the location has ample multipurpose and multifunctional spaces, 3 meeting rooms with a maximum capacity of 10 to 180 people, 1 Business Suite equipped with private meeting room, the terrace of 120 sqm and the garden of 150 sqm are unique spaces for any kind of outdoor event.

A Personal Shopper is available on request:  centre of Rome is very close and the shopping paradise awaits you! If you are interested in museums or tourist attractions, the staff is always happy to help for the booking of tickets, events and also for the reservation of trains or planes. On request you can also ask for a transfer by car with driver to/from the airports and valet parking with wash service with fee.
