Playtime Paris 20th edition: Playtime is 10!

DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? Click HERE for English text!

Playtime Paris is back from July 2nd – 4th at the Parc Floral de Paris for its 20th edition. A very special milestone that will mark the beginning of an anniversary year to be punctuated with many surprises.
In 10 years of existence, the small creators’ show has become a fixture of the international scene for professionals who work in children and maternity. Bringing together at its beginning 44 brands, today it offers a selection of 500 of the most gorgeous collections of the moment. A success story linked to a solid concept that has never ceased to gain in strength: to present, in one space, the best of the universes of children, from ready-to-wear to shoes and eyewear, from children’s bedrooms to gifts for the contemporary family, and from maternity fashion to baby gear.

“We’ve committed to staying as close as possible to the show’s DNA (with 80% of brands returning and staying faithful to the Playtime formula), whilst opening our doors to new proposals with strong creative value” explains Chantal Danguillaume, the show’s new commercial director.

In total, close to 100 new brands will be taking part in Playtime Paris.

The theme of the twentieth edition will be Ré/Re/création. A double-layered theme that will take us through the children’s and maternity trends for Summer 17.

Playtime goes digital

To help bring to light every brand in the best possible way, and to help facilitate research for buyers and press, the exhibitors’ list has had a complete makeover: now both more streamlined and comprehensive, it gives all brands the opportunity to express themselves and share their universes through a detailed profile page.
Visitors will be able to run advanced searches on a search engine that will allow them to filter results by product category, country and attendances, and find and save their favourites.
In the same vein, Playtime Paris’s traditional catalogue is taking the leap from paper to smartphone app. A concentrated source of information which will lighten visitors’ bags, not to mention the show’s carbon footprint! The app will be available on iPhone and Android, will work offline as well as online, and will remain accessible from one season to the next.

A new illustrator

To launch this 20th edition, Playtime will welcome Manon Debaye as its “illustrator of the year”. Still a student at the HEAR, this young artist won the competition organized by Playtime in partnership with the school’s renowned illustration workshop.
Situated at the crossroads of popular images, comic books, and contemporary art, the illustration department of the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg trains its students to become authors of both images and screenplays; as well as to develop their own universe, feed it, and allow it to blossom and exist in various media supports. The academic program of the illustration department is one of the only in France to teach narrative image, or the language of image and its relationship to text.

In totale, quasi 100 nuovi brand prenderanno parte a Playtime Paris.

Iglo+Indi SS16: dall’Islanda Urban Safari

DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? Click HERE for English text
Spring/summer 2016 collection of one of my favorite brands, Iglo+Indi, draws inspiration from its home. I speak about this Icelandic brand with more and more enthusiasm (you can read this article), since when in my constant search for news and quality in the web I came across at the work of Helga Ólafsdóttir.

I will not tell you about the story of the brand, that you can read in the above articles, but I want to tell the inspiration of this collection, in my opinion one of the best of the season.

I was lucky enough to have the overview of the entire collection when I saw these garments at Playtime Paris, in July 2015. And I waited patiently: this is all about. Wait: when you love fashion and you get lucky to see the collections with about a year in advance, the waiting is getting higher over the months, especially when you find a collection that reflect yourself and your modus vivendi.

Urban Safari

Spring/summer 2016 collection is entitled Urban Safari, and takes us into  a charming mix of colorful houses and striking modern architecture of a  bustling capital where the air is crystal-clear and lava fields, mountains, meadows and beaches allow for exploration and play: this is life in Reykjavik, where urban life and nature co-exist peacefully.

The brand focuses on children’s own world: the lines in GOTS certified organic cotton will increase this season the classic panda has made new friends: the koala, the puffin and the fox (and I anticipate that autumn/winter 2016/17 will be fully bio) and graphic prints (often with animal characters or anthropomorphic animals) intersect with brush strokes, spots, bouquets of flowers

The palette approaches sophisticated shades of gray tones to delicate pastel pink and mint green, but also to more vivid colors such as cherry red and orange.

To the classic models of t-shirts, sweatshirts, pants (they are the best trousers as fit for my Sissi), leggings and dresses are added jackets and knitwear with very trendy designs … and for those who want a touch of elegance, this is the woven cotton project!

DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? Click HERE for English text!

As usual Playtime Paris is truly inspiring, both for the eye and the heart: my search for news and for cool, modern and cutting edge brands, every time intersects with the human factor. At Playtime Paris often I don’t talk with agencies, but with real designers or with marketing and media directors and this often makes the difference.

Designers are always the heart of the fashion and style of a brand: they  illustrate their vision with enthusiasm (we like to call it “the mood of the collection”) and we read in their eyes the effort and the passion with which they have created garments that finally arrive in the spotlight and under the watchful eyes of buyers and press.

You have enthusiastically followed my shots on Instagram (not too many because unfortunately on some collections there is a confidentiality clause prohibiting the photo spread urbi et orbi as collections are much copied by low-cost brand) and today I want to summarize the trends most important: we are still in sales period and I think you can find something useful for next season!

They come in this spring/summer 2016 to get its apotheosis in the fall/winter season: every brand has its overall or jumpsuit or dungarees. If you find it on sale, buy it ABSOLUTELY!

A practical tip: if you have children with diaper make sure they are equipped with buttons along the inside of the legs, but if you have a toddler ith the age of diaper-goodbye perhaps overalls are not very practical…

Eco first, please! Fur coats and even vests continue the trend of the season just ended. You’ll find them on sale really easily …

We are used to wearing our children with sweatshirts, but next season knitwear, comfortable and cuddly, will wrap our children in a warm embrace, thanks to natural materials such as wool or cashmere, without forgetting angora or alpaca.

Whether polka dots on bags, gold lurex mixed with other materials and molten gold on boots, gold will be with us to brighten winter 2016.

All-over prints with animals or mouths, eyes, digital prints or drawings: what’s cool and modern nod to our children, that enjoy the playful and joyful aspect of prints. Most original and prone to the phenomenon of “copy-copy”, I can show very little of the beautiful prints that I could see…

The colors of next winter are dominated by shades inspired by the Winter Wonderland, as the dusty pink, blues and gray frosted, without forgetting golden, silver or bronze. The scenarios of the great North suggest blue (in Frozen style), all shades of gray, shades of green moss and forest green.

Milk Magazine presented its award for each category: here are therefore the brands to keep an eye on!

Playtime Paris: trends for SS16

DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? Click HERE for English text!
Back from Paris, after merging (as always) useful (the fair must childrenswear Playtime Paris) with pleasure (stroll and shopping in Paris with my husband and Sissi), today I’ll tell you what’s new and what struck me most.

The Parisian fair has a very different mood from that of Florence: less “luxury” brands, more niche brands, a large space reserved for maternity and design… I do not dislike at all our exhibition (Pitti Bimbo), which remains the largest and most important fair in childrenswear, but I can not deny that I love Playtime. Well… I prefer it! Nevertheless in Florence I always find brands that I know, respect and admire with passion their collections, instead when I go to Paris I literally “discovery” a lot of news, and of course I can meet brands that I can’t find in Florence (including my beloved Mini Rodini, to name one that alone would be worth traveling to Paris).

That said, I’ll tell you all the trends, in order to buy “intelligently” during the sales.

Summer is color. Always. The palette of next SS16 season is made up of yellow, blue, pink, red, coral…

Also in Paris the trend with animal and fruit prints is very strong (if during these sales you find a pineapple or a flamingo: buy it!).

Tulle yet, much tulle, tulle always … and if you can add some sparkle: TOP!

Inevitable stripes, from simple-classic Marinere to the latest revisions.

And finally, another must for next season: polka dots, from head to toe!

Mini Preen by Thornton Bregazzi: cool kids couture

DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? Click HERE for English text!
Preen was founded in 1996 by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, with a joint love of all things Victoriana, a passion for recycling, and with that masculine and feminine, hard/soft mix the couple bring to their designs. Their debut collection at London Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2001 composed of punkish elements; vintage lace and hand crafted effects, this collection received rave reviews.
As a regular must-see show on London Fashion week schedule, Preen made the decision to move their twice yearly runway shows to New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2008, becoming a much anticipated part of New York show calendar. Spring /Summer 2008 saw also the launch of ‘Preen Line’, their contemporary line, with a strong emphasis on effortless everyday cool.
Preen EyeWear reaches stores world wide for Spring/Summer 2014 and Mini Preen reaches its second season.

With a style that is described as deconstructed chic with a minimal opulence, Justin and Thea have grown their label from a tiny shop in London’s Portobello Road, to selling in over 25 countries world wide. Preen designs are worn by high profile women including Diane Kruger, Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett, Carey Mulligan, Kate Bosworth, Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce, Rhianna and Michelle Obama.

I had the pleasure to admire Mini Preen collection AW14/15 at Playtime Paris: we’re speaking of luxury clothes. What struck me about this kind of luxury is really its uniqueness, its “rock” soul. And this time I also like the mini-me style! Fabrics of adults’ models are correctly declined to be built on a tiny body, but still child. From clothes embellished with multicolor sequins to plaid coats, the British label shows the best things come in ver small packages.

Playtime Paris – 18th edition

DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? Click HERE for English text!

It’s quite an habit. Well, I’ll quickly habit going for work to Paris… every time I combine business with pleasure: macaroons, foie (which I love in every sauce), museums (I know well most important, but I delight visit also the smaller, out of the more traditional tourist circuit), a flowered corner, a bit of shopping, a flea market, a croissant, an art gallery, Colette… and Playtime.

Playtime is a magical place. It’s THE trade show in which I found myself with heart and soul, that reflects my mood: multi-national, multi-cultural, with ample space dedicated to design and maternity, big brands alongside with new brands. The atmosphere reflects the name of the fair: playful and joyful. You make orders, business, but beyond this there is an atmosphere of lightness, almost festive. And that’s why I love Playtime. And SissiWorld for the next edition was chosen among the blog partners of Playtime!

From July 4th to 6th, in the usual setting of the Parc Floral in Paris will start the 18th edition of Playtime, where I will admire for you (and if you follow me on my socials WITH YOU) all the proposals for the next spring/summer 2016. 470 international brands that affect the world of the child (and his mother) to 360°: from clothing (20% of brands are completely new) to accessories, from design to the decor, to end with maternity.

Here’s my very special invitation: a landscape created by the illustrator of the year Anne Laval to color, paint, draw… It will be my “wild card” for the flight, my surprise for Sissi, and I’ll give it at my entry to the trade show and will be displayed along with all the other drawings…

I will visit old brand. I will discover new brands. I’ll tell you everything, as I did in January, on socials (mainly Instagram and Periscope – where I found as PaolaAgostini76, as in Twitter) to take you with me and show you through my eyes a piece of this magical world.

And waiting for me at the hotel, there will not be a friend. Or maybe yes, there will be you, my Sissi, and there will be you, my lovely husband. Let’s go together, as we always have made for Pitti: because we combine business with pleasure, because the evening we enjoy the mutual company, telling about our day and then falling asleep together. I do not need more!

Back from Playtime Paris: trends & impressions

Playtime Paris was truly a wonderful discovery.

I believe that a single name be ever more just to define an event: Playtime is really “time to play”, the child is the real center of this exhibition that explores the world of children to 360 degrees.

In valigia per Parigi…

Andiamo a Parigi. [/one_half] [one_half_last]

Let’s go to Paris. We’ll travel all together: we are very lucky to be able to go together and I do not see why I should go alone and leave Sissi at home. She used to travel, she has already flight many times, even if I’m sure that this time she will appreciate more the journey. If only because she will have her own seat assigned [/one_half_last]

PLAYTIME PARIS – 17th Edition

Paris is always a good idea (cit. “Sabrina”)

DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? Click HERE for English text!

Writing a post about Paris just a few hours from recent events that took place in the French capital is not easy

I could postpone this post, but I want to do post today because Paris today deserves that I write about this city in a light, playful and cheerful way, forgetting for a moment all that happened yesterday.

Playtime Paris, now at its 17th edition, is an exhibition about children and maternity at 360°: from January 31st to February 2nd, Parc Floral in Paris will host 440 international exhibitors. 440 brands, 20% of new exhibitors, 2/3 of foreign exhibitors from all over the world (from the US and South Korea to Lithuania) for a total of 32 countries: I like the list of exhibitors, I would like to visit absolutely everyone, and I like the mood that I sense, a mood of news, vanguard that joins some classic” French childrenswear brands, a young and sustainable mood, cooler and less rigid than our local fair in Florence so I’ll tell you if my feelings are right after February 2nd!

The section dedicated to the world of children includes not only clothing, accessories and shoes, but also decoration and design. In addition, the section dedicated to maternity is really wide, with numerous exhibitors.

Last but not least, a section dedicated to art: I love not only the combination fashion-art, but even more the combination world of childrenart! I always loved art in all its forms, in particular the visual one, and on this occasion with infinite pleasure at Playtime Paris I will find the works of three artistsHelene Barrier, Lucie Van der Elst and Sophie Cuvelier.
